I am having some backfiring (decel) and idle settings problems with my 1996 RK injection. Have fitted Rinehart exhausts and plan to fit a stage 1 breather once I can find a tuner to sort out the problems.
I know the 1996 is a bit of an oddball and finding a tuner that works is hard.
Anyone, have any experience of fitting a tuner to this year/model. Was looking at the Dobeck Gen 3 or the more expensive Cobra Fi2000 powrpro..???
Living out here in Thailand, no chance of finding a local dyno or tuning service, so I need something that is easy to install.
I have an injected 98 RK, so I feel your pain. My bike runs great right now, but I too have a bit of a decel pop issue and a somewhat erratic idle (usually fine, sometimes low). At some point soon, I will be doing a carb conversion--might be something worth looking into for you, especially add your resources are so limited there. Might be easier than trying to chase your tail with an aftermarket tuner.
I think there are upgrade ECM's out there for '94/96's to bring your bike up to the later 97 to 01 programmable level where a download or Power Commander is available.
I did not know the 96's came with an option for fuel injection...I thought that started in 97.?.? Are you an American living in Thailand? I almost moved there 2 years ago...

I am from the UK, lived over here for many years, working offshore.
My knowledge of years/models isn't great and the registration book is all in Thai. I believe it's a 96 FLHRI, but will check the Vin number when I get back from work next month.

The bike runs OK, but the erratic (low) idle is annoying and sometimes just shuts the motor off. The carb conversion would be too hard out here, no decent mechanics or workshops.

If you have a few hand tools and know righty tighty lefty loosey you can do it yourself.
