Granted it is close but it is outside the 10% range.

What's the margin of error? 145 *.9 = 130.5. He said the other one is 130. That's within margin of error of his measuring device. Now let's talk significant figures: There's only 3. And one could argue 2 and a half.... Not to mention that the book's 90% number is probably a total WAG.

If it runs good now, throw a cam in it and keep running it. Add some valve cleaner stuff like Techron, SEA FOAM (where is he?), etc. with each fillup for a couple thousand miles and check it again.

130 + 10% is 143 ...

Is this one of those half-empty, half-full things?

Granted it's marginal so this question is getting his hands dirty/wallet pummelled once or twice? Given one of the ways to do what he wants if half doing what he ought to or will need to next what would you do?

It depends how long he wants to keep the bike. Quick fling or long term relationship?

Quick fling is a $50 used Andrews EV27 and some adjustable rods off Ebay. Long term relationship is a new Woods and a valve/seat and head skim job. Get your maximum pleasure and invest in a good foundation for your significant other now. Have wonderful experiences in the spring of your youth, and an extra 15 to 20 hp, to remember when you are old.

I do dating advice too.

Don't we have one spare set of freshly cut or new valves floating round 'the community' if that the problem?

kp?

Usually we tell people to swap the cam gear from the old cam to the new one.

and all the while what we see happen is - if his battery is a couple of years old - that also has to be taken into account - as cranking it even to do one cylinder the battery starts to fall away lets say 2 percent - from the first un top off charge doing one cylinder - did he do it a couple of times ????? 4 percent could have been used up between the cylinders being cheaked - and then your start doing the other

the book is assuming apples are apples - But a home owner is doing the test sooo

Please dont take what i said the wrong way i am sure you are on the correct page with everyone - But you do not do this for a living and shops have a different take on how its done and why something is done, even different than what the book said

having said all of that - he is fine the motor is fine - what ever he does will work out and run for 10s of thousands of miles trouble FREE

Have some answers here, motor was hot, pulled both plugs, checked front first, open chock, open throttle, five compression strokes, then did the rear same, battery new and stays on trickle often, "hardwired". Planning on squirting oil in and a leakdown soon.
Bike runs too good and very strong for me too start shaking in my shoes, keeps up with my twin cam,six speed buddies even with the old lady on the back, nooo problem. And I am planning on keeping the bike even if I was to buy another. No rush to rip her apart just yet,I'll put some cash aside an do things once.

Hey John, should I kick it 5 or 6 times instead of cranking it over??
