Default EVO's have personality

I did something this weekend that I don't often do. I spent a lot of time out on the interstate at 70-75MPH for 300+ miles. I noticed that my old bike seemed to rattle a lot once I hit city stop and go traffic. I think I have a motormount issue.. Lucky, I had ordered the front mount last week. It should be here today. After some city riding things seemed to get back to their normal state. I thought that was weird. My heal toe shifter shakes like a dog in out of the rain out on the highway. The ride is pretty good from where I'm sitting.

1988 FLHTC.. Any thoughts?

Part #'s - 33709-82 shaft and 2) of 33713-85 bushings will fix that shifter right up like new, easy and under $30.

Running 3000+ r's for 150+ miles at a time in 80*+ really gets everything up to temp, bike might make noise you never heard before, till everything cools off a bit.

But I know what you mean, ride is good from where I'm sitting too, just did a 600 mile highway run coming home yesterday, 3200 rpm for 10 hours. (rockin it @82mph gps with the OD6)

I appreciate it. My shifter has a grease fitting and I grease it about twice a year. When I switching out that motor mount I'll check the shifter shaft and bushings for play.

Got the front engine mount replaced. The rubber on the old one was quite a bit softer than the new one, which feels relatively hard. I didn't have time for a test ride but, I did crank it up and then retorque to be sure everything was lined up. The whole job took about 45 minutes and that included cleaning and repainting the bracket that the regulator is bolted too. Very easy job. I also checked the shifter shaft and bushings. The shifter does have a loose feel to it. I will investigate that next..

The shaft and bushings are something I really need to address on my bike.
IF time permits could you elaborate on what it took to replace them ?
Thanks WP

I didn't really look in my service manual for replacing the bushings in the shifter shaft opening. I replaced the bushings when I had the inner primary cover removed and uses a press to remove and replace bushings .There's an oring on the shaft as well that helps keep the grease in. Not at all to change this to an oil topic but generally if I'm going to do a 1000-2000 round trip in a couple days I will change the oil .

I changed mine a few years ago, you can remove the levers and shaft, with the new bushings in hand find a driver with slightly smaller OD, I may have used a socket and extension, I think I drove both bushings out the back side, been a while, but I remember it was simple, and did it on the bike without removing the primary. I do remember the shaft had much more wear than the bushings.

It doesn't show any o-rings in parts breakdown, but I did add an oring on the backside.
When installing the backside bushing, don't drive it all the way flush, I left a slight recess to capture the oring.
I also added a thin washer on the outside between the case and spacer, to stop the spacer wearing into the bushing.

50k later, it still has less slop than new bikes on the showroom floor.

Thank you for this info. This is a job I need to do sooner rather than later. Those bushings must be quite thin. There's not much room in there between the shaft and the housing. Does the shaft really need to be replaced? It seems that usually the shaft is steel and the bushing will be a softer material, like brass.

Update: According to JP Cycle, the bushing part number doesn't fit a 1988 FLHTC. So, in the near future I will just pull that stuff apart and see what's in there. On a cursory view, I couldn't see where a bushing would go in there. Granted, I didn't get down there and really look close.
