One thing I forget to mention - oil pumps changed in '92. Different bolt pattern and totally different pump cover because of the plumbing for the case mounted oil filter, so if one uses a crate engine on a pre - '92, the oil pump will have to be addressed.

Since the crate motor comes with the oil pump isn't all that needs doing is run the oil lines to the correct place?

Basically, yes. The pre '92 pumps feed and returns are on the top of the cover. Post '92 the feed is in the center and the return (to filter) is on the bottom. Probably no biggie on a Dyna or Softail with the long primary. Might get a bit interesting plumbing a "short primary" model since there's not so much room between the pump and transmission cover on them. On the other hand, if you run an oil cooler, it'd make that a lot easier Again, just depends on what model frame it's being stuffed into
