My new chopper has a HD electronic dash, like off of a softtail, if I had to guess, in the middle of the fat bob tanks. The odometer doesn't show. It is just some squiggles on the left side. Is this like a microsoft thing where you can just reboot it or is the odometer toast? Would I replace the whole gauge, or is there a module or something? There's some kind of button on the left side.

My other bikes have CABLES and mechanical odometers. These HD electronic odometer thingies are all new to me.

 

I think you're gonna have to get a new one.
Did you check your connection on the tranny??

 

The speedometer works, but reads about 15 mph low, per my friend. So I'll assume the connection at the tranny is good.

MAYBE I CAN POST SOME PICS OF THE TRANNY. It has a kick start....

 

The LCD panel is probably Tango Uniform. It's probably replaceable at the component level with some PCB soldering skills, but the component is likely impossible to find. Sounds like a job for Ebay.

 

Well, there's lots of things I'll be needing. Rear fender and a seat, or maybe I'll just make what I need from what I've got. And I'm kinda thinking springer, fuel injection and a turbocharger, but that's long term.

I thought of you last week on a midday coffee run. I saw a 1960s Corvair with a turbo charger, intercooler where the backseat should have been, 4-cyl Honda engine (because it too spins backwards) and a Mega Squirt fi on the inside rear trunk. Oh, the tags u ask? NH -Nader. Hahaha

I think that's the longer term plan. Got it running last night. Had to charge tthe battery. Man, it sounds seriously bad-***. I may have to leave it alone for a while. It is a 99 Evo crate motor with a cam and CV carb.

 

The odometer on my 98RKC was so faded I couldn't read it. I upgraded to the twin cam speedo and the problem went away. You can get an evo to twinkie upgrade kit from HD. Took me half a day to do the upgrade. There is another guy with a similar problem on a different thread here I owe that P/N to. If I remember, I'll post it when I'm at home.

The kit sells for $500 but I got mine for $250 from a dealer. Corporate customer service can locate one for you. They will all have mileage on them except for one unit in Michigan. HE wanted the full $500 for his.

This is a real, genuine chopper, made by a real, genuine biker, not a "here's 40 large, build me a bike and we'll work the pennies out later" "chopper". So, lots of parts from misc. bits laying around people's shops, take offs, etc. A bit of a puzzle to work on.
