That off my chest.... I am happy about your clutch...
Taking a break to be a bit serious here, I do wonder about that.

Like I said, this problem happened exactly four times over the course of about 5000 total miles of use.

Three of those times, it happened after running along at steady highway speed for 100+ miles. The fourth (and most recent) time, it happened on my way to work. Still at highway speed, but I had only been at speed for maybe five minutes.

That last time, I noticed that if I goosed the throttle sharply, it would fire up. That made me think what was going on was that somehow my float bowl was running dry, but there was still a bit of gas left in the accelerator pump. Shooting that gas in, and then having the engine spring back to life, caused me to eliminate anything ignition related as a root cause.

Since then, I've replaced the petcock and the fuel line. I've completely disassembled and thoroughly cleaned the carb. Replaced the needle valve. Replaced the float.

Like I said...so far, so good. The problem hasn't repeated.

Well that eliminates my next question about petcock filter maybe collecting tank liner coming off inside and slowing down the flow. Hope all will stay well...

Mine acted like you describe over the course of 3k. At the end I realized when they upped the speed limit here was when it started. as it turned out the float level was just enough on the low side to cause the bowl to go dry. I could run a 70 mph all day, a long passing situation , or cruising 80mph for 8-10 mi would cause a stumble. Sumtin that simple wore me OUT before I finally got it fixed, I'd bet money the float level wasn't it but as it turns out it WAS.

That may very well be it. Part of my carby work included a ridiculously meticulous setting of the float level. That baby is dead nuts on the money.
