I did completely remove the front motor mount and it looks good to me. No cracks, tears, etc. and it is still soft. Its the old style mount made of the softer compound so, I kinda hate to replace it with the new style mount.
Can you rev the engine to 2500 or so which is your vibration range in neutral on the stand, set the throttle stop and look really closely at the engine mounts to see if you find anything amiss?
Your difficulty putting the top motor mount back together is indicative of a sagging drive train. I would start with a new front mount at least.
OK, I'll give it a try. I never did find the "thingys' in the rear they were talking about. The swing arm bushings look good though. Always something on these old bikes.... Wouldnt trade it for a new one though.

If I were to shim my current motor mount to raise it a little, would that help any if the mount is sagging? Maybe as a test before shelling out $60.00 ?
Replace the soft worn out front rubber you have already removed with a new firm OE replacement. Not saying it will solve the vibration however you already have that 27 year old piece of rubber out and it would be a shame to bolt it back in just to replace it in a month or 20.

Agreed. Spend the 60 bucks and be happy, even if it doesn't solve the issue. Needs doing.
I replaced my front mount and over time the two front bolts came loose and one lost the nut completely. It vibrated bad like that. Once I fixed it it calmed way down. A loose or broken engine mount vibrates but good.
