Personally, unless your cover was leaking, it's not worth the bother. But since you already have it, it won't hurt anything.

Everything on your bike is 20 years old. If you are going to start replacing stuff just because of that, where are you going to stop?
Thanks bud.

Yeah I hear ya about replacing lots of stuff. It's just this bike has lots of sentimental meaning / value to me and I don't mind replacing the things that don't cost a fortune. I hope that I can use it for many years and even pass it down to my kids if / when i have then

I think for us guys In The U.K. Harley's a probably a little more special than to you guys in the u.s lol.

Just for information, the primary drain plug (and the transmission drain plug on the Softail) are a 1/8-27 NPT (national pipe taper) thread. That is, the thread is a taper thread that locks when it's tight. I use Hylomar on mine to seal, and tighten them just a bit more than finger tight. Never had one come loose or leak, but I've had a devil of a time getting them loose when an over zealous mechanic over tightened them once.

I hear you there. I keep a journal that details everything I do to my bike. It is written "to" my 7yo grandson who seems to have an affinity for this bike and who I hope takes it up as his own some day.

That's awesome

Men around the world will always bond over petrol machinery.

Please Lord make these modern electric things go away

So I filled my primary to the bottom of the clutch diaphragm from the pictures I've seen.

But I've worked out that the primary has taken 39.6oz is this ok.? As I e read it should be 36 max.

Cheers

Seems like you filled it too much. Should be like 28 max. My book says 26 or 28 I forget which.

Why is everything so hard lol.

I filled it so the fluid was like 2-3mm onto the dark grey diaphragm spring.
