Default Transmission fluid change help.

Hey all, in need of some technical help whilst I wait for my had service manual to arrive.

Noticed today that my transmission / primary was leaking oil from the torx t40 grub screw.

Checked it out and it looks like the thread tape has completely disappeared.

I'm guessing it got old and vibrated away. And in guessing it needs this tape to seal.
So a couple of questions.

I've now drained it completely

.can input normal ptfe thread tape on the t40 grub screw?

. How tight do I do the screw , or when do I know when to stop tightening it?

. Where do I fill it up from? The exhaust side I believe has a dipstick / filler cap? I believe this is the correct dipstick? 1996 fxdwg.

. What fluid to buy? From Harley

. What's the fluid capacity?

Thanks all

Darren

Transmission or primary? The two are separate oil systems. What screw? If you didn't see any tape, none was put on it.

My personal favorite fluids:
Transmission: Mobil SHC630
Primary: Synthetic ATF (Mobil 1, Purple, etc.)

Hey bud, now you've got me going lol.

It was on the shifter side of the bike. And it was a t40 torx grub screw under the same casing as the circular clutch cover. So is that primary?

I'm still learning my way around this bike.

I believe I can fill it up on the opposite of the bike. Big Allan key dip stick.

The shifter side is the primary side. You fill it from the clutch inspection cover on the primary and fill it to the bottom of the clutch basket.

The Allen key dipstick is where you fill the transmission.

DITTO

Primary fill through derby cover and trans through the dipstick.
Do yourself a favor and get a H-D service manual, it's a lot cheaper that ruining your bike.

My hd service manual is on back order but on its way.

So how do I know when it's at the correct fluid level?

Also how tight or how far up does my drain screw go? Is normal ptfe ok?

Thabks

primary takes approx. 1 qrt of oil, or fill 'till bottom of clutch...which comes to about 1 qrt.

You can use regular ptfe tape, tighten firmly but not too much because it's no fun having to drill it out again...
