What caused you to think you weren't getting proper oil return?
One thing to keep in mind is that the scavenge (return) side of the oil pump is bigger than the feed side. So if you look at the return coming into the tank it won't always be a Nice steady stream. It can be kind of choppy and look like it is full of air bubbles.
Don't know if that helps but I'm just throwing it out there!
The reason I figured oil wasn't returning to the tank is because I removed the line from the oil tank cover, removed the spark plugs, and spun the motor for a few seconds at a time and no oil was being pumped out of the line.
Now, I could be totally wrong here, but since the pump was pumping oil via the spin the motor with the starter method, I would have figured it would only be logical that oil would also return at some point as well.

Someone PLEASE stop me if I'm giving bad advice here.... But, it takes a second to get return after changing a filter because the filter is on the return side.
If you are confident the pump is primed and you have the lines routed correctly I would fire it and see what happens.
As long as you have oil pressure just give it a minute and see if the return comes
If the oil light goes out, there's pressure. Don't worry about oil going back to the tank. Either it will or it will puke out your breather, indicating another problem.
I just figured that the oil had to complete its cycle, that's all. After all, if it came from the tank, it stands to reason that it should eventually make its was back, right?
