I have a beautiful 94 FXDL that I would like to add a heel shift to. Because if issues with my feet... it would be far more comfortable with the heel shifter. I have looked online, and nothing jumps out at me... it's mostly around the touring models, or for newer bikes.
Anyone with an Evo Dyna/FXDL succesfully find a heel shift option?
I believe you're right. Which is rather hard to believe, considering the pretty-straight forward nature of the shifting mechanism. This isn't just a convenience issue... I have issues with the part of my foot where you normally shift. I bought the bike because of it's price and condition. I would like to think that this is something that can be easily remedied so I can enjoy it...
nice bike looks like mine
the dyna switchback has floor boards and a forward shifter, with those two things i think a heel shifter might be adaptable.
take a look
I did it, hated it, couldn't get it adjusted right for my forwards. Google Heel Hammer, there's knockoff versions available from vtwin, but you'll find them once you see the hammer. I believe he stopped making them, but you can find them on ebay and new from vtwin mfg Actually, here you go, I did the search for you.
Hey, thanks for the information kp877! I'm going to check into those.
They both list as being for forward controls. My bike is still set with the mids. I use the highway pegs mostly, but prefer to have the controls more to mid... for tighter situations (like in-town).
I'm wondering if they would fit with the standard setup. I've dropped them both an email asking them.
I don't know why it wouldn't work, its the same splined shaft size mids or forwards unless the length of the shifters is off. Maybe measures yours and then match up where this one would fall. worst case find a retailer that doesn't charge for returns and give it a try. I didn't' like heel toe on the forwards, I think if I had mids or floor boards it would have been much better. lifting your foot off the forwards when going down the road feels very awkward to kick it down
I have heel shift on my TC FXDL which is 90% Evo anyway...I bought a cheap Chinese set from eBay....had to re-bush the bracket where the shaft went in because I had to use a second hand heel/toe shaft and it was slightly smaller on the diameter but it works really well....message me your email address and I'll send you pics.
