Default FXR to FXRT

I am considering the purchase of an FXR with an eye to making it into a FXRT. I don't have a specific bike in mind but it will likely be a post 1985 FXR model.

I know some of the parts will be hard to come by, which will be another consideration in my decision.

However, the question I am posing today is whether the conversion is a relatively straightforward bolt on project or does it involve more elaborate fabrication?

Is there any documentation available that details the process?

Thanks in advance for your help!

With the limited availability of parts, why not just buy the real deal ? They're all over CL.

theres a full set of bags and fairings on ebay...3600, if u are trying the oem route...
big bear choppers has new fairings and shrouds with mounting hardware that wont leave u with holes for radios and speakers....
its def an expensive thing to do....u would probably be better off just looking for a fxrt, although they are expensive too! lol
