Took the battery out of the bike and to the auto parts store for testing. Tested good.

A picture of my meter. Selector is at 12 o'clock, OFF. ACV is at 1 o'clock. DCV is at 1:30 to 4:00, and resistance or ohms is at 8:00 to 11:00 o'clock. These are the sections of the meter I used.

For ACV I selected 200. For DCV I selected 20. For ohms I used 200/))). I don't think I was taking my readings incorrectly, but I've been wrong before.

Bike is going to the Indy Monday.

It all looks good to me.. Let us know how it turns out... For a new Rotor and stator I would use nothing but a Cycle Electric. Trust me on that one.... They are the best..... Period.... Oh yea and they're totally 100% Made In AMERICA...

http://www.cycleelectricinc.com/

I didn't know that they can provide up 29 amps.....

After a discussion with one of the local Indys I decided to order a charging kit (Computer-fire 55540) from a HDF advertiser and do the installation myself. I would have taken the good advice of 98hrfb but the Cycle Electric kit was about $140 more and other than being a Scrooge, I might be selling this bike come springtime.

Spent part of the past three days doing the install. Did the test that was included with the kit to confirm it was charging and it passed perfectly. Took two test rides and all seems normal again.

I do plan on replacing the battery and would appreciate any recommendations. HD batteries are about $150 I think and I see other batteries on line for less, but I am ignorant of the quality. What battery would you recommend?

Here's a pic of the fried stator and regulator I took off. I cut the plug off during removal for convenience. The insulation, as hopefully you can see, had burnt off exposing the bare wire. Had a bit of fun removing one of the small phillipshead plug retaining clip screws as the melted insulation found its way in the screws head preventing any grip for the screwdriver.

So that's that, and all is good in cosmoville. Thanks all for the help.

Yuasa are fine, but buy an AGM type, which are more powerful, longer life, although cost a bit more. Do not go for the cheapest!

I'm a big fan of Deka batteries as they are the ones making HD batteries. Or were anyway.
