Starter relay?
I usually replace the relay about every year or 2. For the past yr I have replaced it 3 times. What has changed to make it go out quicker?

Also is there a higher amp relay I can buy or better relay?

I think they are just made cheaper. I took one apart to see what was causing them to fail and the contact areas had a bad angle/fitment that causes the surfaces to arc and leave carbon deposits. Not much else it could be.

You could be exactly right since everything is from china now. Bet your right. Ill take apart my last one and check it out.

Took the OLD relay apart and it looks good. my next thought was my original starter is 21 yrs old... could have a dead spot in the starter and probably time for a new starter..

Are you sure the relay is the problem, have you read out the circuit with a voltmeter?
The starter relay on my `89 Softail has been on the bike since `89...Although the starter solenoid has been rebuilt several times.

The starter draw of amps can whoop up on the relay.
Even so I would test it before going after a starter.

I have not read the circuit yet but I looked at the contacts and one looks very worn. Now were getting somewhere. Thanks Dan.
