Default Coil

Hey all. In the process of freshening up my '97 flht. I am thinking about upgrading the ignition module to Dyna 2000. The coil is the original from HD that came on the bike in '97 and I've never had any issues with it.

Are there any concerns using an aftermarket ignition module with a factory coil?

The Dynatek 2000 works fine with a stock coil.
I've been doing it for years.

Perfect. Thanks for putting my mind at ease!

I can't wait to get the EVO back on the road. My wife bought me an S&S E carb four our anniversary. New carb, brakes, suspension, lifter and pushrods. Probably won't be ready til spring but worth the wait. I don't mind riding the twinkie at all, just not as cool as the EVO

I would prefer an old HD coil over a new aftermarket coil personally. Less people seem to have problems with the original coils.

FWIW the OEM coil went out on my '94 Softail and I went to Harley to get another.
It lasted 8 miles.
Installed an aftermarket and it works fine.

The last coil I bought was an expensive Dynatec that I used in and efi to carb conversion. Seemed quality , but it didn't even fit in the bracket. I spent a long time with a file to get it to fit.
