Thanks guys. Ill start on curve 2 with the voes hooked up and if i have problems with it pinging i will experiment with changing the curve and unhooking the voes.

It seems like every year goes by it gets harder and harder to get a good tank of gas....

Finally got some time to start assembling and measuring.

On the rear hole the piston is .020 above the deck with no gasket in place. The front measures .015 above the deck.

So I will have to get a set of .020 cometic steel base gaskets. Should i have .005 knocked off my front jug or am i splitting hairs here?

Front- 83cc -.005 deck = static 9.92-1 corrected 9.14-1 ccc 188.9 .035 squish

rear - 84cc .000 deck = static 9.84-1 corrected 9.07-1 ccc 188.2 .030 squish

figured with +12.9cc dome, .030 hg, +.010 bore, 40* intake close ABDC

with no compression releases, and 190 psi, heatsoaked, you'll be sneaking up on the start button

what I would probably do, that cam has some hefty TDC lift, check TDC valve to piston clearance, if there's room, deck heads to 81 cc's, install cr's, equalize deck heights,
static 10.21-1, corrected 9.40-1, ccc 195.9

cheap burrette to measure cc's

I agree with schex.... Do the cylinder and the heads to 81 cc. Keep the squish at .030" on both cylinders. You get a better fuel burn and a little smoother running motor... Less squish less chance of donation...

Thanks guys. Hopefully tonight i will have time to put it the rest of the way together to check my valve to piston and see what im working with.

If i do the extra machining to get it closer to that 195-200 ccp mark wont i start having trouble finding good enough gas to make it happy? I wanted to stay a little on the conservative side because this is also my 2 up touring machine lol.

And Thanks for that link Schex. All the ones i was finding were around $100.

You can back it down some, 82- 83cc,
around 9.4 corrected compression is said to be the limit for 93 octane.
Your probably already checking this calc out, but just in case,

http://www.bigboyzheadporting.com/EVOComp.htm

I would look into compression releases though, hot start problems are no fun, big kickbacks, kill batteries and starters.
I saw what the machinist told you, I'd think it can be done.

Yep thats the calculator i have been using. I would be lost without it lol.

I really would like to run compression releases, but my only option would probably be to box up my heads and ship them to hillside. Does anyone have pictures of where ther releases are located?

Also had time tonight to assemble my rear cylinder with my play-doh-gauge installed. I worked the clay to about .175-.200 and set it in the valve pockets and neither valve made contact with it so i have plenty of room there.

Does anyone know which base gsskets come with the cometic top end gasket kits? I see they offer a .010 and a .020 and i need the .020 set.
