Cool Replace Lifters on 1200 Evo

Hello
My 88 EVO 1200 (23,000 miles) has lifter noise, seems getting worse. Question-do I need to replace pushrods along with lifters, rocker gaskets, or can I just get new pushrod seals? trying to keep cost down, but it already looks like about $350 in parts.
Thanks
Arnie

Unless your pushrods are bent you don't need to replace them.

It has to be.
There was no 1200 big twin in 88.

Are you sure it's a lifter? Have you poked around with a mechanic's stethoscope to find it? I have not heard of a lifter problem with those motors, and at that mileage, if original, that motor is practically new.

Assuming it is just a lifter, then, no, you don't need push rods if you take the valve covers/rockers off. You will need rocker box gaskets and I would do the push rod tubes also, plus the lifter block gaskets.

If those are original lifters, they should be replaced no matter what the mileage.
Those old design "A" type lifters had a lot of failures of the rollers.

I use std HD filter and 10-50 HD oil. Never a problem with that-and bike does not use any.

Thanks - I was wondering which brand to use. Don't want to buy based on price. Been skinned there before.
