Default middle piece

They were also misaligned on the front cylinder, just not as much.
I asked the mechanic about it and he said it can’t move once it’s bolted in place. I did not think that was the case, based on what I’ve seen and heard, but he should know (right?).
Question is, can the middle cover migrate out of alignment with the other two? It’s held with just a pinch fit between the upper and lower covers, I believe. The mech implied it must have been that way since the top end but I’m sure I would have noticed it when washing it in the past. Either way, it’s not right in my book and should be corrected before they start leaking.
Any experience with this issue out there?
i had this problem with mine, over time the middle piece gets" warped" a little bit and its a pain to align, if it bothers you, just buy the new center d rings...

My final thought on them as far as their intended ourpose goes is... WHY?
So glad they abandoned them
Just off the top of my head, it makes tearing apart the upper part of the engine possible, without removing the whole thing from the frame. A one piece design would be next to impossible to remove due to the frame back. It's difficult enough with the 3 piece design on the rear jug.

Just a WAG though....

Greetings Harleypilot63 from NZ. I was doing some polishing yesterday and noticed the same thing! The fromt slices are spot on but the rear middle is not straight. How did you proceed? I have no leaks but want to fix it. Any feedback from members well recieved. The Flying Kiwi

If it is not leaking, leave it alone...

I have had all kinds of aggravation with the middle part of the rocker boxes on my `89 FLSTC.

Even when aligned perfectly, as soon as I tightened down the top cover they would move, or worse yet, they would bulge out.

Once I got the tops torqued, without too much bulging or squirming out of place they seemed to stay put, but it was always a pain.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a new set of OEM rockerboxes, and the new parts work great.
