I just picked up a 91 flhs and it has an aftermarket dipstick thermometer which has no level marks. Could anyone possibly measure their factory stick and see where the marks are? Would be much appreciated!
Ive got a 92. Looks like youve drained the oil out of the tank- i put in 2 quarts and run it. There may be up to a quart of oil still in the crankcase depending on how long it sat. Put in the 2 quarts- run it (without the dipstick in) watch how much oil returns to the tank. When its warmed up- check the oil level-and add if needed. My 92 takes 3 quarts- any more and she'll start spitting it out the breathers.
The concern with those aftermarket sticks is that it's the correct length for your bike. We found one that was not the right length being used in a buddies bike when we compared it to genuine HD stick on a similar bike. I'd lean toward buying an aftermarket replacement specifically for your model. Good advise not to overfill it, my shovel was like that and it took a while to find the right amount to keep it full with out puking it out.
I'd also pin your bag lids if you haven't got that on your list. When one comes off going down the road they can be difficult to find replacements and expensive when you do find them. It's cheap insurance.

Yeah, thats why Im trying to get a measurement off a factory stick. I have no idea what mine is for. Bags were already pinned. Looks like one already went for a ride haha
Thanks brother, I assume the proper level is between the 2? Appreciate your help
The bottom mark is: "OMG, time to top up" - the top mark is: "that's quite enough"!
There is no need to try to find the correct dip-stick, simply mark a suitable alternative one at those two points. A punch, small nick with a handfile, or disc wheel should do.
