Ignition spark randomly dropping

That would change the timing when grounded to full advance and 1000 rpm if your idle is set properly. When the ground breaks the timing curve goes back to a lower setting which in turn will decrease your idle RPM to around 850 RPM. Is this what's happening or is it totally dying or is it just a misfire like a skip or stumble..
