Been running an Ultima 53-642 about 16k miles but no road trips yet. Consensus is they're dependable as any electronic gadget generally is. So far mines's been solid except for the pos coil that came with it. First hard rain and I was on the curb. Case separated from the face and was shorting out in all the water spray. I notice they're up to 53-644 now so I'm gonna put one of those or a Dyna 2ki in the saddle bag for roadside emergencies

Is it still working for you? What's wrong with it? Like to know.

I never liked the the H1-4 even when Crane made them, always found the timing curves a bit weird and they did no mix well with kick start bikes.

Cold starts are as bad as the OEM stuff and warm starts require me to hold open the throttle a bit to get the bike started.
Dynatek makes a much better ignition IMO and even though it voids the warranty I'm gonna pull the HI-4N and install a 2ki.

You'll be happier with the 2K, timing curves are much more user friendly.

Good to know. I thought it was heat issue being inside the cam cover. I don't think that you would void your warranty if you document that you changed the ignition correctly, etc.... Another way manufacturers want you to use their stuff. I not 100% sure though.

According to an S&S tech if I change the ignition module then I void the warranty.
Then again all I have to do is put the HI=4N back in if I have a problem!!!!

I did not read that. LOL..

Anyway, I did look up the S&S warranty for fun. First couple of paragraphs just says you have 12 months for anything to go wrong. Where they probably might get folks is no.1 on additional warranty provisions. I also looked up Ultima engine's warranty. They have lots more information, because they offer more long block sizes. Their warranty is very similar, except they allow aftermarket ignitions like Dyna along with their Ultima.

How's your S&S 111 working out for you?
