Default Mechanical To Digital Speedometer Conversion

I have read the threads I can find on this and have done extensive research on parts options available for the switch so I'm good there.

I'm hoping to find someone who has done a conversion from a mechanical front wheel driven speedometer to a digital speedometer, either OEM or Dakota Digital. If you did this conversion did you use the D.D pulse generator that attaches to the end of the speedometer cable or the rear wheel inductive pickup pulse generator? Did you have to use a speedometer adjustment module? How pleased are you with the conversion and its accuracy? OEM or DD speedometer? I'll be doing this on a 1990 FLHS and don't want to change out transmissions to the newer style with the pickup on the transmission.

I'm going to install a Road King tank and instrument console so my options (without a transmission swap) as I see it are to convert to an electronic speedometer or cut and weld a through pipe in both the frame backbone and tank so I can route a speedometer cable up through to a mechanical speedometer. The Dyna mechanical speedometers with an angled drive input don't seem as though they'd work with the RK dash.

Thanks for your help.

Frank

I just converted to a Speedhut with speedometer/tach. Works great, nice features and looks really nice. I had to make a spacer to fit the speedo for the hole in my roadking dash. It is just a little bit too small. I found out it is not very waterproof. I had left my bike outside overnight and it rained pretty hard. You do have to request them to seal it, but it still isn't the best in a heavy downfall. I got some condensation under the glass, but once it dried out it was fine. I rode in the rain twice since then and have had no problems with water getting in.

Speedhut does not make water/weather proof instruments.

Good to know...plenty of waterproof ones out here as many of them are made for boats...just don't get one that reads knots...
