that can explain why I went with them concerning the way they "locked in." Again, I'm confident most, if not all the mentioned methods are just fine. I've used heli-coils a lot on various metals / applications and keen- sert on some bell housings of diesels years ago.
I have nothing to measure metric stuff but the barrels (un-installed) measure .605 OD, ,585 in the threads. The tap isn't marked but measures .620 outside and .595 in the threads. The installer/expander measures .630 on the highest points of the 5 sided threads. Y'all have to do the math yourself for metrics.
Though the barrel flange sits a bit deeper than I expected, the depth in the chamber was what I was hoping for. Low light made good pics difficult but here are the best ones....
Thanks for the measurement... looks like it is the same as the H-D insert for older Shovelhead short reach plugs...
so, I need a bit larger... thicker wall... maybe Keensert, or maybe Fastenall

You're welcome. Time-Sert does make oversized inserts for ones that have failed with heli-coil or standard (first time) repair inserts. They are nasty expensive but here's a link. Maybe give you food for thought.

Official, branded, Time-Sert. I got the long/extended version for cars with deep plug locations in hopes it would be easier to resell and cover most of my cost.
^^^^ Are those inserts copper? The ones I used were steel. Those threads will never get torn up again. Also, with the long tools you'll probably have to remove the tank where as I didn't.
