So I put my bike back together yesterday. Went for a 60-70 mile ride. And I pulled off at a buddy’s house and bike wouldn’t start. The solinoid stuck out and that thing got hot! Cloud of smoke puffed out and everything. So I got it home. Me and the kid pulled the starter I took it to auto zone had them test it checked out good. Bought a new battery putt it all back together and same problem but the sollinoid will disengage. I pulled the plugs and same thing. It solinoid pops out engages the ring gear and bumps the motor but won’t turn over. I can look inside the cylinder and see the pistons try to come up but the stop. When I tried to start it yesterday day it came around like it always does but sounded like I picked up a rock and the motor sounded like it tried to crush it. The next time I hit the starter is when it tried to melt down. I’m really starting to think I may have sucked a valve. But I can’t see in the cylinder if there is anything in there. What do you guys think??
I figured it out. One of the screws from my carb walked out and went down the throat of my carburetor and into the head. So the piston came around and contacted to valve, or the bolt made it passed the valve and into the cylinder and is hitting the top of the piston and the head. Not a proud moment for me. It’s a 1995 flhtcu.
Are you running an S&S E carburetor? If so you should be using blue loctite on the air horn bolts.. definitely gonna need a tear down. Post up some pics when torn down, of the combustion chamber and the top of the Pistons.. All repairable but the cost and downtime suck..
