This scooter has one of the lamest rear master cylinder set ups ever. Mounted under the frame with a remote reservoir. Nothing but problems with trying to keep pressure in the line - pads relax then eventually end up rubbing against the rotor, causing overheating and locking up.. Anybody have similar issues? I've rebuilt the master, same problems. Anyone ever modify or upgrade with a later model master? where it's mounted is just asking for dirt and grime to cause failure.
Another tip for older bikes, pull the caliper up off the rotor and work the brake pedal till the pads come out enough to touch, watch the fluid level doesn't go low on you. This breaks the suction seal older systems will sometimes develop with the pucks sticking. Once they come together use a screwdriver to wedge them back open enough to remount, this also has the benefit of moving the brake fluid through the entire system in volume, helps displace blockages on mico ports.
another thing I found was if the caliper pistons are corroded they wouldn't retract as they are suppose too. I changed the pistons two times on my 85 flhtc because they looked like this.
