I rode a few FXRs and they are nimble without a doubt but just seem a little too small for me.. If I had a second Evo I think I'd want it to be an FXDWG... This seems like it's sort of like an oil thread.... Lol....

Ya, give yourself some time, something goes wrong with the thought pattern. Couldn't stand apes - now have apes, couldn't stand Road Glides - now have a Road Glide and shovel Tour Glide with no explanations, possible getting goofy.

Unfortunately we are creatures of habit but sometimes we get tired of the same old same old and just need something new. You can probably put that same theory to our marriages because we always end up going back and same thing with the bikes.... I guess that's why some guys have girls on the side, or multiple rides.... Lol..

Between a couple of bikes you have all your needs covered. You can also work on one bike and ride the other. An FXR and RK cover my bases.

I call them sloptails, rode one for a bit when they first hit the market, always felt like I had a 300lbs drunk fat broad on the back. My bud still has that 85, he seems to like it.

Wanted another FXR, regret ever selling the 82 I had, looked for a number of years for a reasonable deal but out here they are either goobered to hell and gone or had the living **** ran out of them for stupid money. FXR start at 5K for rats and a decent FXRS tip $12k easy. Why I ended up on a new M8 Road King, instead. Spend 8 grand for the bike then another 10 to 12K and a year building it into what I wanted and still have a 30 yr old platform. RK was cheaper.

Denial is always the first step before admitting the truth.

Pretty much all the worthy Evo models were noted in this post. Here's my top picks if I were to get an Evo (currently own an 84' FXSB Shovelhead).

- FXR. As mentioned, nothing beats an FXR when it comes to the handling and feel. Cult like following nowadays which has led to some ridiculous pricing for not only the bikes themselves but parts. There are still GOOD deals to be had

- 91-03 Sportster. If I got one it would be a "mini fxr". Built to handle. Mag wheels. Built engine. You get the idea. Dime a dozen. Cheap. Reliable. Fast.

- Softails. Chopper! Softails are cheap. Yea... they are "sloptails" but they are a GREAT foundation for a good reliable chopper. You can fit a rigid section fairly easily (articles have been written on this a few times). I myself is over the chopper style bike but if I ever get the itch again it would be an Evo Softail.

- 85-86 FXSB, FXEF, FXWG. Someone here mentioned it. Cool bikes being an Evo in a traditional 4 Speed frame. Only difficult thing to find for these bikes are seats since the seat post was modified to fit the taller Evo engine. Limited on seat choices here. Probably limited on exhaust options too. Other than that they are cool bikes for unique factor BUT they have crappy rotary top transmissions (of course aftermarket 5/6 speed options are available or a good ole' ratchet top). I can speak on this as I have the 84' Shovel with this transmission (which I just overhauled and is LEAK free)... but even with all new shift linkages they shift like ***.

Can't go wrong with an Evo!
