Default Primary fluid change 98superglide

Hello I am the original owner of this 98 super glide. I just change the primary fluid and I only used about 18 ounces now I have about 45,000 miles on it and I’ve always change the fluids but this time I noticed it wasn’t as much that I used. I do have a manual and I know there’s a difference between years as to the height of the fluid upright. I drain the fluid. I took the bike for a ride seems like everything’s good should there be any concerns thanks

Do you drain the whole primary, and then fill it to the required amount by your book? Is there a primary leak? Do you know if your engine oil has increased. There are possibly three things that could have happened: 1) not filling primary to specified amount 2) leaking out of primary to ground 3) primary fluid getting into the engine through the engine sprocket seal.

I do not know how much was in there I changed all 3 fluids in one container. But when zi changed the primary I drained it waited for no more coming out. Put the screw back in filled to the clutch like the manual says and did take only about18 oz. which I thought was unusual

If what you have been doing is working for 45K miles, then I wouldn't change it. The oil is just splashing around to lubricate things. And if the level is reaching the bottom of your clutch pack, then you should be OK. In my bike, I just put 1Qt in, and be done with it. I would keep an eye on your engine oil level.
