I used Bug-Slide courtesy of a riding buddy & it worked like a charm.

Lots of good info. It is coated, it is old and a bit depleted. First attempt with novus made it a but more hazy, i was worried i would make it worse.
More novus blended the surface nicely, but i can see the aged coating better now, ha!
Got some plexus to keep it clean and it is pretty decent now, i wouldnt be opposed to the full-on wet sanding project, maybe in the crappy ohio winter.
a bit of recurve and acryilic sounds like a good move though.
Gonna make due for now, no more dumb wiping.

If you have removed the coating then maybe take a look at car headlamp restorer kits to see what they have in the way of a final finish and fine polish to get a crystal clear finish.

Yeah, i am nutty about making stock work. I even kept the butterfly carb on my chop for a decade, even though i have a CV built and ready on the shelf
i reckon it is some spiteful reaction to being told it was junk. 10 years of keeping up no problem!

Coated shields are polycarbonate. They are tougher than plexiglass shields. Plexiglass can shatter on impact, with polycarbonate it’s less likely.
When the coating on poly starts to deteriorate it, the shield, should be replaced. UV and weather will wear it quickly and it will no longer be safe.
Polycarbonate is a superior shield if it’s well maintained. It cannot be sanded to remove scratches where as plexiglass can. But plexiglass is less able to protect you from bouncing rocks, loosened pallets, and such.
Oh, and, a wet towel soaking does wonders for getting bugs off, and Wizard does a nice job of polishing.

Great info, you got me reading..
polycarb is 250 times more impact resistant than glass. Acrylic is 17.
i see a lot of folks selling acrylic (can be molded and polished)..
im looking into the safety aspect, but then, in 25yrs of riding i only just got my first windshield last year, so....
