My 93 had it riveted on the fender extension. I was experiencing the "dreaded click" condition and moved it.

Great story and history of your dads bike.Great to hear you had the opportunity to get her back.Blowing up the diagram is the way to go about sorting the wires.Take your time to get it right and reliable.Enjoy and welcome to evo land.

There was a recall on the `89 models for the starter relay, they were relocated from the fender extension to a spot on the right side behind the battery, underneath the seat. This got them out of the weather, they were having an issue with starter motor run on due to stuck relay contacts.

A quick search didn't provide any results on relay covers but I'll dig a little deeper tonight and see what I can come up with. I'm not sure what you guys are referring to as the "fender extension" for factory mounting location. Is this on the underside of the fender? There is a tab right above the starter solenoid I had planned on mounting the relay on. Not weather protected in this location but it seemed like the logical location based on the plugs in the new harness. Easy access. If I can find a rubber cover maybe this location will still work? I'll get a picture tonight.

The fender extension is a plastic curved piece that keeps water and debris from coming off the rear tire and getting into the area where the oil bag is.

I mounted mine on the end of the starter motor. I’ll take a pic when I get home.

I don't have much memory of how the bike handled. The rear shocks didn't seem bad while riding but I haven't really rode it. It would bottom out going into the driveway. I knew that wasn't good and could be very bad at speed. I was surprised at my lack of options for replacements. I believe I purchased the last available set of Worx Shocks (formally Works Performance). I spoke to a guy at Wrox before I purchased these. I wanted to confirm they were the correct shock. He said he is trying to get a new batch out but it has not been feasible to make small batch production runs with they way manufacturing is right now. He hoped to have some more out in 6 months or so but based on another older post I read here that has been his hope for quite a while. Way more money than I figured I could spend on shocks. Hopefully they ride nice.

@JHD1827 . Here are pics where I moved my relay and the fender extension. I admit the relay could live somewhere else but I don’t want to do any wiring extensions if I can help it.
The relay was riveted on the inboard side behind the circuit breaker.

That does help thanks!

I was wrong about my harness. It is wired to mount the relay on the fender extension. I'll need to relocate the relay and the 30 amp breaker or modify the harness.. This is where I thought I would mount it but I'm not crazy about how it looks. I would also rather not start chopping up the harness.

@Dan89FLSTC Is the 30A breaker under the seat as well or just the relay? If it's not too much trouble I'd like to see a pic of that set up without the rubber cover. I'm in no rush. I haven't had much time to mess with it lately and I still have quite a bit of work to do on the handle bar and dash wiring to keep me busy for a while.

Really appreciate all the input!!

I`ll pull the seat off and take a few pics tomorrow.

The main breaker is mounted on the fender extension, in a most inconvenient spot...
