Looks like the cam reads FB310.2 and the next lobe in reads 39-99CR, and there's a Torrington bearing already in there.
LOL. On the contrary, we're all on the edge of our creeper seats

I'm already impressed with your determination and apparent basic abilities. The real challenge will be getting it back in correctly timed. Remember, the pinion goes around twice for every one time the cam makes a round. So be careful marking and counting teeth and don't turn the crank...

Interesting. Never saw a gear with 2 rings on the outside and one on the inside. Is there a (tiny) key way in the gear? Can't tell from the angle of the photos.

For what it's worth, I've run 3 Crane cams. They each and every one failed on the bearing end after not too many miles. (less than 10k)

Thanks for the encouraging words, minus the last line lol. This is my first time diving into anything motor related, the service manual and youtube vids are helping me along, I'm just looking for more information on what I've got myself into.

Went to go take a picture for you and the lifter fell out through the bottom of the tappet block and was easily able to take out the rod. The rods look like they're Crane adjustables according to their product book Part # 4-0018, lifters look like stock.

The FXR drew first blood today.

Think I'm going to replace the cam with a EV27 and pick up a set of S&S quickies with a new torrington bearing. The motor has 34k on it, any reason to replace the lifters?

I have to ask why you took it apart??? Going to the EV 27 is a waste of money.. DID you have any issue's with the current setup???

I just wanted to know what I had in the bike. I wasn't aware that removing the cam cover could possible ruin cam bearing, and thought it would be just an easy pop off the cover, see the markings, and then I'd know.

The only "complaint" which really isn't one, is that it felt like the bike ran out of steam a little earlier that I would have thought.

I fully understand wanting to know what's in it that's reasonable. BUT.. I don't see how you think you ruined the cam bearings but do what you want I hope you don't run into problems down the road...

From what I've heard/read over the past couple days is that if you take off the cover without relieving pressure on the cam, it could ruin the bearing since that's all that's holding it in, I don't know how much truth is in that. To me, the bearing looks fine but I have no clue what to look for.
