I have used the 116 a few times and what we did was strip it to the screws to see what it was and if i liked what they did - when they first came along with the engine program - and the piston ring lands were not big enough this caused the rings to seize - they sent me all new parts to fix it and i sent the original stuff back un used
i also was not a fan of the camshaft they were using - i should have left the original as it became a MONSTER and almost not streetable so i set the rev limit at 5000 and sent them on the way - it needed a chain not the rear belt as pulling it sounded like shots going off when the tight belt skipped a tooth or two reving up
they seem to last its all import parts ( country ??? ) i believe they assemble them - they work but set the rev limit down and they last - if you have it you will use all of it and then it does not last
If I couldn't afford an S&S, I would probably rebuild my O.E. to My Spec, using as decent Quality Parts as I could Source...
I do, However, Have a very good, well established, Proven. Harley Wrench..
For the price I was thinking of getting one and tearing it down and checking to see if everything was within specs. A lot like what johnjzjz is saying.
I was doing the math . . . if I built a 96" S&S motor . . . buy building it as I bought the parts It would cost me about 4k more than buying the dang thing outright, completely assembled by S&S.
About 2011 or 2012 I assembled a 127 for a guy. The only thing we did different was lifters and a 3 angle valve job and he made the advertised hp easy. I moved and lost track, don’t know if he’s still street/strip but last I knew it was running great.
I just bought another un assembled 127 and blue printed it and installed it in my softail. I haven’t fired it yet but everything looked good. Next year I’ll replace the rockers and have the heads ported and a new valve job… but I’m pretty confident it will get me into the 10’s likely 140 square. I’m gonna run my bored out G carb and I have two sets of exhaust to try, Bassani pro-streets and hooker three step drags. After the 1000 mile break in I’ll do some track and dyno to see what’s up.
I also messed with a 96” shovel from them. Put a different evo cam in it and he made about 100 square.. less than my 93” but still pretty remarkable from a crate motor.
The un assembled 120-127 cost almost the same as the assembled but I wanted peace of mind and love doing it myself.

[QUOTE=TwiZted Biker;21415566]I'd do an Ultima over anything RevTech. S&S is getting sketchy anymore, had my share issues with their stuff to.[/QUOTE
when we were road racing i went to them to have a special set of wheels made and out side behind the building was 3 55 gallon drums filled with damaged crank pins that were not hardened correctly - that is was all over the place at that time late 90s

Still have a 5 gal bucket of their rod cores from that BS.
Longevity is more important to me than HP. What would you guys think of disassembling the 107" El Bruto and replacing the piston to drop the compression down to 9:1 instead of the 10+:1. I would still get the extra power I want just from the size increase. I'm not building to race. I thought I read somewhere they are using 4" dia. pistons from a twin cam. Is that correct?
