HI Guys,
I did order the factory manual, but it wont be in for 3 weeks!!! I was hoping to be on the road by the weekend!
The only thing that is holding me up for a safety inspection is the horn operation. Its not working.
The previous owner discarded the horn and I cant seem to find the wire that powered it. I assume it works off the horn button supplying the ground to a relay?(Or is it power right thru the switch to the horn?)
If it is a relay, where is the relay located?
Wire colors from the horn button and or relay would be appreciated too!!
Not sure what year or model of bike you have, but my 90 geezer has a green wire and the horn grounds through the body of the horn. The wire is probly zip tide off up under the tank somewhere.
i have a 1998 evo road king classic....the horn is connected to two wires...one wire is to ground( - ) it is connected to metal bar under the tank between cylinders....as long as it is connected tightly to a clean metal part (clean grounded) part of the bike your OK....wire number two is yellow..the yellow carries the ( + ) from the switch to the horn when you press the button ....i did not hear a relay "click" when when i disconnected the horn power and pressed button... i reviewed manual and no relay was mentioned....
DO NOT PLACE AN OVERPOWERED HORN ON THE BIKE WITH-OUT A RELAY..it will burn the switch..consider using a voltmeter or test light to check your leads.
Ok the wiring diagram show's orange wire and a white wire going to the switch. The orange wire will be hot or have power, the white wire goes to the horn by way of 2 connectors no relays. When the wire leaves the last connector the wire is green which will attach to the horn. If the horn is rubber mounted then you will need to supply it a ground wire from the horn body to the motor mount or bracket that the horn is mounted to.Try jumpering out the horn to see if it works, you put a ground wire on the horn and a hot wire from the battery to the hornit shouldpeep. The wire bundle should run down the backbond on the right side under the gas tank, somewhere between thecylinder heads the wiresfor the horn should be exposed, hopefully zipped tied up. You may have to lift your gas tank to find them. I hope I made since.
Thanks guys. The problem was at the connector where the handle bar controls plug into the under dash harness inside the fairing. I accessed it through the headlight hole. It was a simple push the wire into the connector fix. Thanks for the help!
