very nice bike you got there Beast. how did ya get the pic to come up? looks like the new software is working well. i am stiill chaseing a tranny oil leakin the electraglide. just waiting on a seal so i can put her back together. Dealing with a starter clutch issue on my 99 rg. its always something ! hope all are riding all you want. the weather here in the heart of dixie has been hot, very hot.
I used the go advanced then attached the link from photo bucket. I found a great fix for the inner primary bearing problem. I cracked the inner race from harley which of course allowed the race to grind into the drive gear seal from the tranny. I then was using the Baker inner primary bearing which has the inner custom honed so it will slip over the main shaft but problem is you have to use the baker seal and replacement bearing from Baker. S&S has a new sleeve that presses on the main shaft with a taper on the inside so it won't move then you can use the stock harley inner primary bearing and seal it works really good.
Still getting used to this new layout the old one seemed to be easier to use. Heading home On the 15th to do some ridin, plan on heading to Sandpoint Idaho and across N Washington on HWY 20. Anyone close to that area as it would be great to put some faces to names in person.
beast,
i went to Zippers performance and bought a primary bearing and seal, which is probably the same as the baker stuff. I unknowingly had already damaged the main drive seal trying to get the stock sleeve race off the mainshaft that i had a terrible oil leak. thinking all the time it was the primary seal. so, i took it back down and found the leak. order the seal from Jireh last week, still waiting for it. i was hoping for today, but maybe tomorrow.
Some of the after market Single piece inner primary bearings are a press fit onto the mainshaft no problem to get them on but a real problem to remove them unless you leave the snap ring out of the inside of the inner primary but that means the bearing could move and disturb the seal. The one piece Baker bearing is honed on the inner race so it's a slip fit on the mainshaft so you can get it back off. If your over 100 HP you shouldn't use the stock 2 part bearing as the inner race tends to move on the mainshaft or crack. With the S&S set up the inner race that is the same dimensions as the harley one but it has a taper on the inside that matches the taper on the mainshaft so you press it on as the harley one but the taper prevents it from moving and the higer quality steel prevents any other problems this way you can use the stock harley inner primary bearing and seal then if it has to come off it's a lot easier. This is what I found works good on the higher HP applications. If your under 100 hp then the stock set up is fine. To be sure try the bearing on the mainshaft before you put it in the primary if it's a press fit then it should be honed on the inside so you can get it off when you need to.
