Nice. I am sure it will be costly. Look forward to what you find out.

Hi Goat,

It's got about 8k miles up now. My wife and I did a 2,500 mile tour of Europe on it in June, with a bunch of young whipper-snappers on modern BMWs. We had a great time and travelled a wide variety of roads and countryside. The Tatra Mountains on the Slovakia/Poland border are wonderful!

The bike rides great, charges along a treat, but still has that vibration patch I have mentioned before. I just have to get on with it! Cash is a bit short at present, but I intend getting my S&S man to spend some time on his dyno with it, see if we can tune the vibration out.

A Harley mechanic pal of mine reckons the problem is a combination of resonance in the valve train caused by the cam, plus jet transition in the carb. I hesitate to change the cam, but sorting the carb looks like being more straight-forward (thanks to John of Mia Cycles!).

The air/fuel mixture goes haywire, from rich to lean, crossing over around 2,500/3,000rpm, before getting back on track to the correct ratio from 4,000rpm. Its perfect beyond that, but I don't spend a lot of time up there - gets really hectic around 6,000rpm!

So we're rubbing along together. Performance is far better than before, as we would hope, while fuel consumption seems pretty similar. I did a range of handling improvements around the same time and the 'old lady' really flies now. So I am not quite as happy as I could be, but still love it!

Went on a ride last Sataurday only got 35 MPG. Put the bike on my buds Dyno and HP was down, Front cylinder A/F ratio was perfect, rear Cylinder was running rich. compression and leakdown were great, so was the valves. Re-fired the bike and checked advance in both cylinders. Front was spot on and rear only had half the advance it should have. So tomorrow we are putting a new module in. I think maybe you guys not getting great mileage might want to look into this.

Just installed a Ultima 107" in my 1999 Heritage.
Got about 400 miles on it now.
Start to rcognice now a Top End Noise wich was not there from the Beginning!
Any way to be concerned about it??
Maybe need to adjust Valve clearence?
Other than that engine runs grate
Any advise will be appreciated.
Greetings from sunny Germany
I switched to 7/16" Screamin' Eagle adjustable pushrods & a .600" lift S&S Camshaft in a 107 Ultima & the valvetrain is MUCH quieter. Engine runs, sounds & performs better... cooler running also.

Reading your post just reminded me of something I found out. I was running an S&S 110 with the "G" carb then I changed it over to the 51mm CV carb which improved things but still had similar problems as you described. At this point I put in the 127 which I had problems with so in order to keep riding I put the 110 back in (nice to have a spare engine). In the mean time I had gotten some of the S&S Intake seals as I had been using the Harley ones, the S&S are slightly thinner and a lot harder. I also installed the Ultima ignition from the 127. All I can say is what an improvement, it's much smoother starts and idles better and no flat spot at mid RPM cruising like before. I suspect I was fighting a vacuum leak as the intake seals I took out were always damaged. The Ultima ignition also worked wonders with the idle and starting as it runs a lot less advance. If the 110 had run like this before I would probably have never bought the 127.
