Primary/Transmission
I've got a 1993 FXDWG and I'm a bit confused about the quantity of oil for the gearbox.
I've got a 'Repair manual' PDF that I found online (actual book will be received around Christmas), and tabel 4 tells me the 'Primary Chaincase Transmission' holds 16 U.S. oz, or 473ml.
Now this is the part on the left of the bike that drains the oil with the small allen bolt right?
But I can't find the amount of oil for the gearbox (big chrome allan on the right side of the bike)?
I think the gearbox is referred to as just 'Transmission'?
Chapter three that explains the Transmission oil change in detail tells me to check tabel 4 for the quantity of oil to use.
But the only quantities that are mentioned in this tabel is the enigine and the ' Primary Chaincase Transmission', not just 'Transmission'.

I understand I can just keep pouring oil in until the dipstick shows the right level but I would love to know how much it should hold...
But not the actual Transmission (right side of the bike, with the small dipstick) even though it should be also listed in tabel 4:

I must be missing something obvious because english is not my first language...
Apologies, I forgot that bike has an oil pan instead of tank and I don't recall the precise capacities but hopefully @Yankee Dog or others will be here later and give you the correct amounts.
Thanks all!

I use my dipstick on a cold transmission with the bike standing straight up and on level ground. Don't screw the plug/dipstick back in when checking the level, just hold the plug in place to check the level. Again, don't thread it in or just thread it in only slightly (one turn at the most).
Made the mistake once by putting fluid in the trans while the bike was suspended by my bike jack. Added to the line on the dipstick, then when I put the bike back on level ground it was way over filled.
It's just splash and gear dip lubrication so don't over think it. I think about 475 ml's is pretty darn close (last time I changed it I think it took even less). I don't keep track anymore. I just use the dipstick as mentioned. Careful with the dipstick placement as it can get snagged on the clutch cable and fight you putting it back in. Just try to follow the direction of the hole. In other words, don't tilt or cant the dipstick when putting it back in. Just follow the direction of the threaded bore.
Allen bolt is the transmission FILL plug and dipstick. You have two 3/4 inch hex head bolts on the bottom of the oil pain. The forward hex head plug (front of bike) is for draining engine oil and the rear plug is for draining trans fluid. There is actually an inner tube cast into the oil pan that goes from the drain plug thru the inner pan and seats up against the bottom of the trans. That is how the trans fluid gets drained even though the transmission sits above the oil pan.
Table shown provided the answer.
