I retired last year and plan to spend time restoring cars and bikes. My first project (in retirement) is going to be a Grey Ghost - the original Fatboy. For those of you that don't know the significance of the motorcycle, you can read about it here. https://www.greyghostregistry.com/the-myth
The important part of finding a good 1990 Fatboy was to make sure it had the parts that cannot be found anymore. Mainly those are the timing cover, derby cover, and mid rocker box plates that have the yellow trim. The bike I found has all of that and I bought it from the estate of the original owner. The title that I have shows the bike had 8 miles when he bought it. The original owner had the dealer perform many upgrades that I will be removing to get the bike back to original. It has a Jay Brake upgrade caliper in the front, chrome fork lowers, Baker 6 speed overdrive transmission, stainless braided cables and oil lines, etc. Once I'm done restoring it, I plan to ride the crap out of it. Since I'm limited on garage space, I'm going to sell my 2015 CVO Limited. Most of my riding doesn't requiring a big touring bike anymore and I think the Fatboy will do me just fine.
I'll start tearing the bike apart in a couple of weeks. It will be a frame up restoration. You'll see the paint is blue and silver. The story I was told that the dealers had a hard time moving them back in the day because they were all silver so some of them painted them two-tone. This is the first time I've seen this, so who knows. In the pinstriping between the blue and silver, there are some yellow accents the painter put on there. It's going back all silver like it should be.
It looks like the blue was just added over the original silver. A good painter could remove the blue and blend in the new paint. Maintaining some of the original paint and logos

There are two people that reproduce the tank and other decals.
I saw you post about this bike in another thread where you called it a grey ghost and I was wondering about the blue. Interesting little tidbit about the dealers painting them. I never knew that.
