I have the original White Bros. EZ clutch arm attachment in my FLHS, since 95. I made a spacer to take up the extra cable slack that fits at the lever and got rid of the spacer they gave you that mounted at the trans cover. It didn't allow enough thread engagement for the cable IMO. Really does reduce effort. Combine that with a new well lubed cable and it's buttery smooth.
I installed a new cable (teflon lined I believe, no lubing) on my 93 and the clutch seems really easy now to me. No idea what the ramp degree is in the stock arm. It had a pretty stiff pull prior, cable was old and not sure if it was routed in a way to minimize any tight bends.
Ordered the Muller Power Clutch yesterday, picked up 10mm stainless steel hardened bearings on the way home today. All the gaskets I need for my transmission. Figured since I'm going in I might as well be prepared
I think 98hotrodfatboy did some experimenting with changing the size of the ***** to get more clutch movement. Don't remember the details, and not sure if it changed hand effort.
It’s a cool trick and works… however what it does is increase how far the lever can move the clutch to open.. like when you want more play for an extra plate in your clutch pack. It really doesn’t change the force required by your hand.
I bought the single item part which was just the base that the ***** sit in with larger ramps. Because I run a kicker, the space inside the kicker housing is quite limited and the extended clutch pull arm hits against the inside of the cover, restricting the movement. The larger ramps made it a massive pain to try and adjust the cable correctly and despite collapsing and resetting the whole apparatus over a dozen times, I could never get it to work correctly (I also run a BDL ball bearing clutch / primary) so went back to the stock unit.
Im still using the oem clutch cable from 1995 which has seen better days so will likely replace that this winter with a new one and hopefully see some improvement.
Finally installed the Mueller Power Clutch ramp assembly and new clutch cable. Wow! I did NOT expect that much of a difference. The pull is a lot easier. What surprised me more is it feels like the friction zone is a lot narrower, not sure why that is.
Anyway, I'm very satisfied with this investment. Thanks for the recommendation guys.
