hi everyone, i am new to this site having just swapped my suzuki VL for a 1998 fatboy, my question is:- here in UK it is quite cold this time of year how long would i have to run on choke before it will idle without cutting out, i started up from cold did about 1/2 mile pushed in choke ran another mile stopped at junction and bike cut out . I have been told EVOs run colder, is this the case and i just have to leave choke on a bit longer. I have only had bike 2 days so not been out much, and the weather in England at the moment is very wet. keep up the good work , Jon
I would warm it up in the driveway...easier on the bike. You could also go to half choke before cutting it off entirely. You will get a feel for it in awhile. Naturally, colder weather is going to rusult in longer warm up times.

Yea riding with an open choke will foul out the plugs.
If it's anywhere near stock, you leave the enrichener on for 2 or 3 miles. You can push it in halfway after that and all the way in after 4 or 5 miles, although mine usually vibrates in by itself.
today i checked the mixture screw it was screwed out 5 turns, i increased idle speed to get ansteady tickover, i thenturned in mixture screw, it speeded up then started to slow down as i got to3 turns out, so i backed it off 1 more turn so it is now 4 turns out. is this the right way to adjust theidle speed mixture, and is 4 turns out about right. its a 1998 fatboy vance hines pipes + K+N filter have been told carb was rejetted when pipes and filter were fitted
My owners manual says"start with choke full out after 3min. or 3-5 mi. go to half choke then after another 3min or 3-5 mi. push it all the way in."Work great this way.
Welcome to the sight and congrat's on the fatboy of all my bikes I love my 98 fatboy the most. As for your question I would leave it out long enough to get it running and push it in and then use the throttle lock to set a fast idle until it warms up a little. Myself I swapped to an S&S super E carb and fixed the cold start problem.
