BUMP
I am thinking of replacing my 95 fxstsb' 80" evo with a 107" Ultima. I am in the UK and it works out half the price of an S&S v111. Anyone got any info on it? I know a guy here who I ride with and he says his is strong as a horse and never had any problems. WHat sort of mileage can you get out of it?
Anyone have any personal experience with it? And not just 'ohh I only buy S&S stories'

Hi Neil, fellow UK member and S&S owner, which I bought new in 2008. At that time Ultima engines were available over here, but where frankly an unknown quantity, with a questionable reputation, especially in the USA. Warranty details were non-existent for us UK customers, whereas S&S does have a UK warranty agent, in the form of Matts Machine Shop. My V107T came with a 3 year warranty, but it hasn't given any trouble. I had my engine supplied and installed by Matt.

Would I buy an Ultima today? No. We are not in the USA and don't to my knowledge have any UK-based experts in them, in the same way that our US chums do, to either rebuild them when new or when they go wrong. I decided back in '08 that it was more important to me to have peace of mind in my investment (I doubt if there are many aftermarket Harley engines over here) rather than save a few quid on an uncertain purchase. I should add that we have travelled widely in Europe in countries that have no Harley dealers, let alone S&S or Ultima dealers!

I won't presume to offer advice, but I can report my very positive experience with my Ultima 107. I have it installed in a 1992 FXR

I won't presume to offer advice, but I can report I have had a very positive experience with the Ultima 107 in my 1992 FXR. I have about 25,000 km (approx, as a dakota digital gauge had to be replaced a while back). No problems with the engine. Lots of power (do not need more). Fuel mileage is mid to high 30's or 40 km/litre. Much better on open road, but I commute in crappy traffic and under those conditions not great (VH short shots don't help). She does like to chew oil. When I lived in Canada I ran 20w50 primary but she likes 10w40 in Australian conditions (moved home, bike on boat, 2 years ago). I top up oil half way through yearly change cycle. I had a compression test done recently and, though the notes of the results are at home in a log book so I can't recall exact figures, the cylinders were within a percentage point of each other, at the high end of compression performance (before the too high end!), and there was zero leak down. I have had no issues with the cam or valves, find no difference 95 or 98 RON, and generally it's all good. I think some basic Harley etiquette, be nice to the hog, goes a long way with these Ultima's. Some bolt tightening, keep on top of the oil, avoid launchin it. As for warranty etc, comments about dedicated techs are overblown. Shops that build bikes know how to fix an engine, Evo or S&S or Ultima or whatever. Since moving home to Melbourne, I discovered two local shops familiar with Ultima (just-in-case research). Some no idea, of course. In the end, my 107 has +25k Km's with no engine issues at all, and that is under wide ranging conditions (canada cold and Auusie heat). I appear to be subscribed to this thread so can reply to other questions. Cheers. And how about those Wallabies!

Do you really expect anybody to read that mess??
You might as well have started with a capitol and ended with a period for all the intelligibility of the above block of text.

I agree one probably needs to be past the low end of the IQ spectrum to keep up with a paragraphlessentryduetotypingoniphonewhileonthetra msogobiteyourselfordothetexasthingofshootyourselfi nthefootandexcusethegun.

So if I understand that mess correctly you blame your phone for your post.
Do you blame forks for fat people?
Do you blame pencils for misspelled words?

Maybe you should learn more about your phone.
This post was written on a smart phone.
