FYI FOR ANYONE WONDERING ABOUT 4 SPARKPLUGS ON A 1200 EVO... today a very close friend and myself went and picked up a 1984 1200 sportster and it has 4 plugs and after research its atomically correct from the dealer. That specific engine was considered a High output 1200 & that was possible by compression. So those plugs are right where they supposed to be and my research I saw plenty early 80's 1200 with 4plugs but hell I never could find anything explaining what the benefits was heck I seen several articles claiming to just take them out & plug them saying absolutely no power lost by doing it.. now there's my head scratcher

Hi Jake and welcome to HDF. Your new bike is an XL1200S and was a regular model, I even test rode one when they were new and considered buying one - not least because it was a very tasty yellow. I have a yellow Buell these days, instead! If you plan on doing any work on that bike I strongly recommend you get the genuine factory service manual, available at your local friendly Harley dealer. You can also download the owners manual from the H-D website, for free, by going to the Owners tab and using your VIN. The chaps over in the Sportster section will also be interesting in your new toy!
1984 was an iron head Sportster, not an Evo. And I don't think they made it in 1200 either. They had an 1100CC model available in the Evo Sportster in 1986. 1200 came out later.

Ooops! I was a few years out with my recall of the XL1200S with 4 plugs - late 1990s!
