So last year i guess you could say i "inherited" a 98 FatBoy. You see my father-in-law decided to up and move to a tropical island a while back and left behind a bunch of stuff for my wife to sell..this was before her and i ever met. So A couple years after we were together she tells me this story and says that she still has an "old bike" in storage in a friends barn. Been sitting there for 5 years. So we decided to pull it out. its a 1998 Fatboy with 4,000 original miles on it! It has a totally custom Pro-One front end on it, and air ride rear suspension. It was a little worse for ware and some of the look of the bike wasn't really my style (not that i'm unpatriotic..you know what i mean when you look at the "before" pic)
So with a vision in my head, my somewhat decent mechanical skills, a little bartering, good old E-Bay and about $1,500..thats right only $1,500..this is what i ended up with...
p.s. the wheels were new in the box..original list was almost $2,000...paid $525..they were the "steal" of the project
Looks awesome! Much better in black - although I did like the Captain America paint job, too - but maybe just not on a FB. The exhaust looks MUCH better - probably sounds and performs a lot better, too. The wheels are beautiful. I've been thinking about putting 80-spoke chrome wire wheels on my E-Glide - I just love the old school look of wire wheels. But mine's a Police bike, so I don't know... the black rims on yours look really good on your bike.
I wish I could "inherit" a bike like that! You did good!
Definitely a nice ride - the "barn" finds are usually the best. As I ride along I daydream of the fluke stop in a little town when some sweet old lady tells me that she has an old motorcycle from her first husband sitting in the barn out back - she'd sell it to me for $50 bucks of course! Guess I'm just not livin right.
BTW - what did you do with the other wheels? Want to get them out of your garage?
NICE job on the redo Mike! How's the motor after sitting for so long? My 92 Fatboy has 50K+ miless on it and only sits in the winter...... It's gone thru a similar transformation since 04. This spring it's getting a WHOLE NEW look. Where in Jersey are U?
BTW - what did you do with the other wheels? Want to get them out of your garage?
i actually traded them for a paint job... i kept the American flag tins and picked up new ones piece by piece on ebay...all different colors..so a friend of a friend that does paint traded me even up fo the paint work
