Default 96 ci big bore/stroker build

Anyone done a 96 ci big bore/stroker to their 80 ci Evo? Been thinking about it for my FXR3. Since it's a '99 (post '95) the cases are said to be strong enough for the bore. What are the downsides if any, and what should I be aware of as far as any potential problems? I've read and been told that this is a very strong, reliable and durable build.

Hi James,

I had a JIMS stroker kit fitted to my 1990 Glide that worked very well. There were parts available at one time that could stretch later motors like yours to 106" (Sputhe if I remember correctly). I had it professionally built and it was a peach!

Take a look at the Revolution Performance big bore kits (I have the 85" kit). Your cases will have to be bored for the larger cylinders. Give Andy a call at 1-866-892-2109 with any questions. He can also talk heads with you as you'll be moving more air and can select a cam that will work with your combination. I have earlier model cases (93) and did not want to take a chance boring them out.

Spoke with Andrew from Rev Perf today. Nice guy very helpful. They also have a great website with tons of info for all builds. They also stress balancing the bottom end for prolonged durability. Anyway, @$6K for 97" or 100" builds. Broken down roughly, $3,400.00 for cylinders, pistons and gaskets, connecting rods, roller rockers, cam, headwork, and package, $475.00 to balance and true crankshaft, $400.00 for ignition module $750.00 for 2 into 1 exhaust. Tack on another grand or so for shipping, taxes, misc., and having someone put it all back on the frame after it's shipped back to me, and we're looking at @$6K vs. @ $7K-$8K to drop in an aftermarket engine, which will "have left a lot of performance on the table" when compared to their build, according to him.

That complete Ultima 113 with a warrenty looks like a steal compared to the prices your throwing around.

I have the S&S 4 5/8 set up in my RK but not the bigger bore so I can't speak for the 96". I had my stock heads reworked by John Sachs and sold the SE heads, installed the rest of the usual performance parts, very happy with the little 89" as Mr Sachs guided me into a properly set up engine and learned that experiance speaks for itself.

You can give John (google Sachs Racing if you need background) a call about your direction and will give a well experianced honest answer without BS, he is also known as a Ultima engine guru - his 113 produces 130+ on a dyno.

I have a 96" S&S sidewinder that was installed in my 87 dresser in 1990 and I have had no problems with it until this year when the base gaskets started seeping. I'm pleased with the motor and I had my lower end balanced thru S & S and had been commented before on how smooth it would idle as the stock motor had a tendency to shake around some. I would recommended S & S based on my experiences with this motor and about 45000 miles since the motor was rebuilt.
