Default Yeah, I'm a glutton for punishment.,,

Today I wanted to try something different. I went to my local dealer and bought a used police bike. The price had alot to do with it. Now this isn't a police model that someone bought and used for a while, it is a real used police bike that saw duty in Jersey city, new jersey. It's a '96 Evo motor. My first impression is ,this motor runs good. It really surprised me with it's pick up and excelleration. It shifts good ,nice and easy no clunking or banging into gear. Only mechanical issue I have found is it doesn't want to go into neutral while running. It has been a road warrior so i expected to find some problems. It has been dropped on both sides more then once with minor scrapes ,but no major damage. It has a broken left side muffler/ fender strut. It has a few scratches here and there, and the windshield is cracked. I already found some replacement parts on Ebay. I spent this afternoon just goin over the bike tightening everything and checking it out. It seems the front end needs some attention. Not because of how it handles, but it seems to bottom out on the right type of bump. It will get a complete oil change by the week end. Then more scrutiny of everything mechanical. I'll report as things happen, to let anyone who has wanted to try this how involved it can get. If I can figure out how to post pictures, I'll put some up so everyone can see my road warrior.,

Check the clutch to make sure it is fully disengaging. Also, if the clutch is mechanically OK, changing the primary fluid to ATF (I use Mobil 1) will really help a lot. I don't like that new Harley transmission/primary oil.

I've never had a problem keeping up with twinkies. Twinkies usually have a problem keeping up with me.

The front end cluncking could be low or old fork oil. I got my last windshield from these guys. I am very happy with it, both price and quality.

What model police bike? The MoCo shipped them out in a few different configs.

Check the primary chain for adjustment, change the fluids, and ride it like ya stole it.

How much air do you have in the front end?? Do not use a compressor to add to it, buy a small hand pump that is made for it. Get a proper manual for it and follow the reccomendations. The air system in the front end may be leaking b ut in most cases the repairs are fairly easy. Hope this helps.

As soon as I got it home I went thru everything. Oil was 1 qt low, trans need to be topped up,the gauge for air in the seat read 0, rear shocks had 10 psi, front forks read 0. I have a Harley air pump from my other bike so a few pumps later I them pumped. The bike rode very smooth even when low on air. I'll check it again today to see if there are any leaks or if the PD never bothered to check it. I need to pull the outer fairing off to see whats clunking around in there and might change the fork oil while I'm in there. I want to see also about installing a radio .,,
