I want to put a batwing fairing on my 1991 flt. The one with the big plastic box on the handlebars. Is that stuff pretty well interchangeable. Any crazy **** I should know about. Any help is appreciated
I did it on my 85 FLT. I got a 1970-something batwing on ebay for $120.oo with original mounting hardware and it bolted right on... no problem. I sold the bike last year after i got my 2010 cop bike.
I miss the evil evo sound, so I hang out here every now and then...

I fitted a mid-80s glass-fibre batwing to my FLHS, which has a headlamp/instrument binnacle. I previously bought a later style, as fitted to Evos, with the light and instruments mounted in the batwing, but gave up trying to fit it because of complications with the wiring.
In taking off your sharknose fairing to fit an old batwing like mine you will need a headlamp/instrument mounting system of some sort. You may be better off looking for a batwing from an early Evo that mounts all those in it.

I did it the other way, on my '90 Ultra I went from the batwing to the tour glide fairing. (To each his own, I like the tour glide fairing better) Really was not all that hard. Lots of wiring changes, if you're good with wiring it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
For fear of more stupid questions. I've bought all this stuff in pieces. So I'm probably missing stuff here and there. But I cant' figure out for the life of me how the outer bolts to the inner. There's nothing on the outer to attach to. anybody know how they go together.
im in the process of mounting a fairing on my 89 flhs. the mounting bracket and rubber is different for the instument cluster but i reused my cluster and the only wiring i changed was two going back to my rear speakers.im looking for a set of plugs for the controls cause i want to put 96 up controls on it. also looking for a 96 up front master cylinder.
