Default deutsch connector help please

Hi all. I am installing 16" bars on my 98 fxd and I am going to run the wiring in the bars. I got the burly kit so I believe I have all the parts and wire extensions I need, but man I just can't seem to figure out what connectors I am supposed to cut/pull apart. The kit instructions tell me to find the right and left handlebar control connector housing "which are typically found under the tank". Ok fine, I got the tank off and I'm just not seeing any connectors aside from the one behind the headlight. Seems like all the wires from the handlebar controls run right into the back bone of the frame and God knows where they go from there. Yeah, i have zero patience for wiring stuff, and I was in a hurry trying to make some progress before I ran out of day light and patience, but am I blind? Why don't I see these friggin connectors? Under the seat next to the battery I noticed a good sized connector, but it got too dark for me to really get in there and pop it out to give it a look. Is that one of them? Do I even have deutsch connectors?

Any help is much appreciated. Pictures would be a godsend.

thanks all.

They disappear into a square rubber grommet just behind the headstock (neck) one each side of the frame...pull out the rubber and the connectors are all in there.

Patience and electrics go together like politics and bullshit ;-)

That is priceless. lol

Thanks for the reply. I did pull that rubber plug out last night but I didnt see the connectors, but it was dark and I was tired so I probably didn't give it my best. I'll check it out today when I get some time.

Thanks

You need to be wide awake, in the peak of condition before tackling electrics....

Went at it today "wide awake" and duh, all I had to do was yank the harness out of the frame and presto...i find all the connectors. I am actually embarrassed to have posted this thread to begin with.

On a side note, if anyone is planning on running their wires thru 1" bars, I recommend pulling off the oversized factory wire protective sheathing and using heat shrink tubing on the wires instead. It made it much easier to pull the wiring thru the bars and out thru the holes I drilled.

I think what you mean is you have identified a problem, considered the various characteristics and self-diagnosed it. Well done!

I found 2, a white one and a black one, but the deutsch connector is way in there, and It seems impossible to pull down. How did you reach your's? Is it hel down with tie rods or sumthing? o_O It's driving me nuts!!! I'm on day 2 of the ape install, and its all because I cant pull out the connectors > : O

Some connectors are fastened to the frame by a little stud and a keyhole slot on the back of the receptacle. To remove it you have to slide the plug/receptacle along it's axis and it will allow you to remove the plug/receptacle.
