Default Need to replace a lifter

The front cylinder intake lifter grenaded on my FXR today so I need to replace the set. I already ordered a set of HD "B" lifters, so I won't stir up that discussion again. Just wanted some advice on how to replace the set. Should I pull the cam and install them from below, or remove the lifter blocks and go in that way? If I should remove the blocks, what size are those 12 point bolts that hold the blocks in place? I know I don't have anything in my tool chest that fits them, so I[m going to have to buy a socket.

Thanks

1/4" 12 point socket.

Get some "easy" install pushrods of a reputable make. Cut the old pushrods out with a bolt cutter. Remove the lifter blocks, inspect the cam, put back together.

If the lifter grenaded, the cam lobe might be damaged too.

Thanks Doc. Already have SE EZ-Just rods in there. The jam nut on the one pushrod backed off and the retaining clip on the lifter broke. I'll check to see if the axle or roller is damaged when I pull the lifter blocks off. Hopefully the damage didn't wandere into the cam chest.

I would pull the cam chest anyway, once the lifters are out its no biggie to do but something may have wandered in there and you don't wanna do the job twice.

I agree, & your breather might be plastic which can damage easily!

Yea, I'll probably pull the cam cover anyhow.
Now, this may be a dumb question to those in the know, but it isn't for me. I know I have to soak the lifters in oil prior to installation. Bu I assume that when I install them and go to adjust the pushrods that I won't need to wait for any bleed-down since they were never run and, therefor, have never had a chance to pump up. Am I right or wrong??
