I'm looking for some suggestions regarding carburators / jetting / modifications for optimal setup on my bike, here are the stats.
1998 Dyna Super glide ( 19,000 miles)
Andrews EV-27 Cam
Big sucker AC
Vance and hines long shots
The EV-27 will be installed within the next few weeks along with SE adj. push rods, metal breather gear and big sucker AC. The inner cam bearing is going to be checked and replaced with a torrington if need be as well.
I went with a mikuni HSR42. Really like the response of a flat slide. Once you figure out all the adjustments, its a nice carb. Have around 40K on mine now.
From the factory, it will probably be set up pretty close for your bike. My engine is stock, only A/C and thunderheader. So I am in the process of de-tuning the carb. Smaller accelerator pump nozzle, smaller slow jet.
Never had an S&S, but my experience is there not exactly daily ridden bike friendly. More for racing than daily all weather riding.
S & S are fine for every day use...ran a used one for the last 15 years without every having to crack it open. Mikuni's and CV's are fine too, the "tune" on the carb has more to do with how it performs, than what name is written on the side.

The Mikuni all day long. I had my 97 WG motor pretty stock up to three years ago. Did an Andrews cam and the Mikuni, OMG a new bike. Runs much better, revs more freely and pulls and pulls. I wish I did it ten years ago.
I have a S&S on my Sportster, nice unit but a little basic. The mikuni is complicated, but once it is setup right, it is the only way to go.
At the end of the day, either will be a huge improvement from the stock CV, that thing should only be used as a door stop, my 2 cents.
I've been trouble free with cv carb. There's a guy on ebay thats suppose to specialize in tuning them for performance.
Ontario Eh ? you better get the mods done soon if you want to test everything out, we're running short on good days.
I went with this guy below. I have always set up my own carbs but since I had to replace so much (gaskets, slide and jets) that it made money sense to go this route. Dale knows his stuff. I don't know what all he does but this is the best acting carb I have ever owned. You are running the cam I am and he would set it up the same. I basically bolted the carb on and it was ready to go. I could not believe I did not have to touch anything. The cool thing is he replaces the stupid plastic fuel inlet with a brass one and all your bowl and top cover screws are stainless allens that are easy to take out. I am happy with it so I guess that is all that matters for me
