Default Leaky Rocker Covers

I have the same issue with my 87 FXLR, and also want to do it myself. Are the back bolts as difficult to get at on my bike?

On some bikes the left rear can be a problem, just drill the frame over it. You will need to start out with a smaller bit and end up with about a 3/8" bit. Hope this helps.

My question is...how hard is this to do myself? I'm pretty mechnically inclined, have the manual and see that a set of Evo gaskets are under $50. Just checking to see if there will be some hiccups I may encounter by doing it myself versus a professional. Any feedback is appreciated...
That seems like a very fair price since at minimum you are looking at about $75 in parts with gaskets, oil change and filter. Why rejet the carb? I am guessing you have all the simple hand tools available along with a bike jack or something that will hold the bike straight-up and rear wheel off ground. The job would take about 4 hours if you have never done it before...If you have the 3 piece rocker covers and if things are not lined up properly the gaskets will leak when installed and you get to do the job again but the second time it will be faster. The rate limiting step is the difficult to access top rocker bolt..some people used cut allen wrenches and other drill frames or purchase the special tool..$250 is a very good price for all that work but if you have plenty of time the experience gained might be worth it.
