Default Break in 500 mile maint report/plug pic

Continuation of THIS THREAD or chapter 3 in the ongoing story of the grand engine adventure! LOL!

I finally put over 500 miles on the new engine. So far, so good. No leaks, runs great, I couldn't be happier. I went ahead and did the 500 mile oil change tonight. How come no matter how I install the filter, I always end up resorting to driving a screwdriver through it when I go to take it off? My composite socket slips and the steel filter pliers crimp it, then slip. Would a steel filter socket do any better?

Also, I want to find a petcock style oil tank drain plug that I can slip a hose onto. I'm sure there is something like that out there, right? Anyone got links?

Anyhow, everything went well, oil is changed, filter is changed and screen cleaned(although it looked spotless). I also went through and checked all the bolts and nuts and did a general look-over. Since I just completed 500 miles, I figured I would pull the plugs and take a look at them. I don't have a whole lot of experience with Harleys yet, but they looked pretty good to me. I know there are a few people on here that can take one look at the plugs and instantly tell you what I had for breakfast, so I snapped a couple pics. Take a look and tell me what you think.

Not only does the Harley look good, but she is running better than ever. I had a wonderful ride with my love, and can't wait for the long journey to take the next step in our lives. Then from there our true journey begins.

After digging around some, I found the oil drain valve/spout I was looking for. Apparently Custom Chrome marketed them for a while, but they are hard to find. After installing it in place of my stock drain plug, all I have to do to drain the oil is slip on a 1/2" hose and open the valve. The oil is routed through the hose away from the wires and pipes. Now I just need to figure out how to get the filter off without having to drive a screwdriver through it as a handle! Maybe I will spend the extra for a K&N filter, they have a wrench hex on the dome...

I also just added 2" offset highway peg arms. Now I can stretch out better on longer rides.

Maybe I'm spoiled from my cages, but I kinda miss having a backlit digital thermometer telling me the ambient air temp whenever I'm on the bike. I know that I can tell if I'm cold or not since I am outside in the ambient air, but I am still curious to know the actual temp...

Your plugs are indeed perfect, you screw on the oil filter too tight, and I'm thinking just coffee for breakfast.

I only screw it on hand tight to begin with. And I don't drink coffee... LMAO!

Get a oil filter strap wrench.....way less messy than puncturing it with a screwdriver!
