I just bought a 97 Road King with MM EFI, in late April. I find the power lacking on the highway, while passing (roll on throttle in 5th). Because of this, I am thinking of swapping out the EFI for a Mikuni setup from Jireh. I just like the thought of being able to fix my carb, on the side of the road, vs trying to figure out what is wrong with the MM EFI
I am a Harley mechanic.....I will not own an EFI bike and if I did I would convert it to carby straight away....that is all anyone needs to know about the EFI vs Carby debate.....
People spout a lot of academic nonesense about how EFI is superior but in the long term, if you have to wrench on your own bikes, if you intended buggering about with cams and pipes from time to time.....carby is the only way to go....cheaper, easier and actually way more reliable.

The Spanner has spoken.......

I'm glad we're half a World apart mate! Every vehicle I've owned for many years, except my good ole Glide, has been EFI - it's a fact of life. That will be the case for most of us, including no doubt the car your wife and kids run around in!

My car is a V6 EFI with cam chains an auto gearbox and computer everything....its a Nissan and doesn't actually go wrong at all......look under the bonnet and try to identify any part at all and it makes your head spin but remember....I am not likely to be fitting a hi-flow air filter or different cams to it....all I ever do is change the oil and filters, the plugs last 200,000kms or more....and it cost a quarter of what I paid for the wideglide.....in 5 years I will throw it away and get another one.
The Harley is a much more interactive experience, the car is mainly there to tow the boat to the ramp :-) The Harley requires more care and attention than the Nissan needs.
And I stand by what I said earlier.....carbs for me on bikes every time and I would recommend the same for everyone who runs a Hog on a tight budget.
